When you start Googling pet-friendly holiday destinations, you’ll be amazed at the variety of results that pop up on the results page. Sadly, a lot of those “pet-friendly establishments” aren’t so friendly, and don’t really cater to the needs of pets. Today, we’ll be sharing some of our tried-and-trusted seaside spots where you can go kick back with your pets, knowing they’ll feel just as welcome as you do!

Kwa-Zulu Natal
Beach Forest Lodge
Located 400m from the Ballito beachfront is Beach Forest Lodge, a haven that offers 4 spacious self-catering units all with their own entrances, private patios and braai areas. The units are situated in a tropical garden setting, which is idyllic. While you’re there, you can take your dog along for a nice meal at the Galley Beach Bar and Grill after which you can take a leisurely stroll along the Golden Mile of Durban’s beachfront.
The Oyster Box
The Oyster Box is a 5-star hotel in Umhlanga that’s also one of the best pet-friendly holiday destinations in the area. They offer dog beds and special doggie menus to help your furry friend feel right at home. For walkies, there’s a great beach and promenade.
Lake Naverone
If you’re not heading to the KZN coast and prefer something more inland, why not consider Lake Naverone in Underberg? This natural sanctuary offers you the perfect escape from the hectic pace of everyday life. Complete with stone cottages, a lakeside and tranquil clearings shadowed by the surrounding woods, it screams rest and relaxation.

The Blue Corner Guesthouse
Located in Blouberg, The Blue Corner Guesthouse offers self-catering, pet –friendly accommodation for pet owners that want to have a chilled-out seaside holiday. Located just 5 minutes from the beach, the guesthouse is ideally located. If you don’t feel like a sandy adventure, you and your dog can kick back on the grass bank at Eden on the Bay with the other dogs or make your way over to Leadville Dog Park for some playtime and coffee.
Petersfield
Petersfield is a secluded pet-friendly holiday destination in Citrusdal that offers private mountain cottages, each situated 2km apart, providing you with total privacy. The institution has four cottages on offer and welcomes cats and dogs of all types. If you’re not lounging out in the unit’s plunge pool, you can choose to explore the relatively easy 4×4 track with your pooch or take a dip in the farm dam.
