Chatsworth Animal Clinic

The Chatsworth Animal Clinic brand was born out of a “Right place at the Right time” moment.

As a new graduate with no job prospects, the opportunity to purchase this ailing clinic was a gamble for Dr Ramona Rambally.

Fortunately the previous owner had left behind 3 exceptionally well trained staff, with the right attitude, to make the practise grow into what it is today.
From humble beginnings in a little basement shop, to a warehouse, to the property that stands today, the wonderful community has played an important role in our development.

In return, the growing number of staff have committed to practising the very latest medicine and health care by attending progressive lectures and management courses. We are striving to always provide the best we can, in terms of technology, by offering clients digital radiography facilities and in house laboratory equipment.

The needs of the community are constantly changing. This means that we’ve had to adapt accordingly; by increasing the business hours, by providing mobile and transport services, and offering an increasing number of services ranging from boarding to grooming.

Receptionists are trained to help clients with dietary advice, pet behaviour and training, general husbandry queries and often as a shoulder to cry on when a beloved pet dies or is euthanazed.

Due to the combined efforts of staff and community, the Chatsworth Animal Clinic has been able to support many non profit organizations:

Durbanville Animal Hospital is proud to be a part of the Vets Who Care Group.

Durbanville Animal Hospital was founded in 1986 by Dr Ivan Mendelsohn with Michael Mpushe as his assistant. What started off as a small personal practice in Valmary Park steadily grew into a 2 hospital, 5 veterinarian practice. Dr Mendelsohn retired in 2016, after 30 years of dedication to the practice. Nowadays, our Durbanville hospital has 3 veterinarians, 2 nurses, 2 receptionists and 2 kennel assistants. Our highly motivated and caring team strive to deliver an outstanding level of veterinary care.

We’re a group of dedicated professionals devoted to the health and wellbeing of the pets in our community.

Our two animal hospitals are known for their outstanding veterinary care, diagnostics, medicine and surgery, as well as expert emergency care.

Dr Elzette Rossouw – Veterinarian

I am the mother of 2 cats and 2 unruly Jack Russells. I have been with the team since 2007 and despite all the grey hair gained I love the privilege of really getting to know my patients and walking the road with them.

Dr Alet Engelbrecht – Veterinarian

After qualifying in 2003, I worked in the UK for 8 years, gaining valuable experience in veterinary science, as well as pursuing my love for backpacking and travelling. I have a cheeky cat, Winnie, and enjoy cooking, hiking and reading in my free time.

Dr. Virginia Samiec – Veterinarian

I have been an animal lover, especially dogs, all my life. I currently have 4 little dogs, 2 girls and 2 boys, known as ‘The Banger Boys’ and the ‘Ya-Ya Sisterhood’. I qualified 30 years ago and have experience in welfare and private practice. I love my job as much today as when I first qualified.

Sr Mickey – Vet Nurse

I graduated as a veterinary nurse from Onderstepoort in 2013. My wife and I currently have a full house of rescues with two beautiful cats and three energetic dogs. Patient care is the favourite part of my job. I enjoy seeing our patients relax and feel comfortable in our hospital.

Veterinary House Hospital consists of three veterinary practices all located within KwaZulu Natal.

Veterinary House Hospital provides health care for all animals, from hamsters to elephants, from budgies to rhinos and from chameleons to St Bernards. The list is endless. The advantage of a large professional component is that each person brings an interest or speciality.

Our Main Hospital in town has all the necessary modern equipment and facilities to cater for all companion animals, including birds and exotics. Richmond Clinic is central to an important farming community and our clinic near Cascades services our suburban clientele.

At our Townbush Clinic in Cascades we also host a grooming facility, Wagg ‘n Tails.

We have also developed a Research and Development arm to our practice, also centered at Town Bush clinic. Here, we have built a laboratory through which we conduct research into various remedies.

We are also proud to introduce our welfare arm, Paws for a Cause. It is a sad fact that there is insufficient State assistance for animal health and organised welfare organisations are often under-resourced. As we are committed to helping all animals, we have established an internal arrangement to help those poor creatures who do not have the privilege of an owner who can afford Veterinary care.
