EduPet Veterinary Consulting Room offers assistance with behaviour and training problems with dogs and cats. We offer behaviour consultations, puppy classes, clicker training courses, pet bereavement consultations and seminars and workshops. All our work is based on positive reinforcement training methods, no punishment or force, and scientifically sound approaches. Dr Quixi is a veterinarian with a particular interest in behavioural medicine. At EduPet we celebrate the human-animal bond and serve our animal and human clients with compassion.

A veterinary behaviour practitioner deals with a variety of disorders.
In dogs, the most common disorders include

aggression between dogs
aggression towards humans
destructiveness
training disorders
fearful behaviour (strangers, loud noises)

Other disorders include

hyperactivity
compulsive behaviour
excessive barking
house-soiling

In cats, the most common disorders are

house-soiling and/or spraying
aggression between cats
furniture scratching

Very often, advice is required about introducing new pets to each other.

Therapy

Each animal has to be evaluated in its own context – what helps for one will not necessarily work for another.

Puppy classes offered by Edupet Veterinary Consuting Room

Learn all you need to know about bringing up a puppy in a positive way. Theory and practical are combined to ensure that you have all it takes to turn that puppy into a great adult dog.

Puppy classes cater for puppies up to 4 months old (maximum 16 weeks at start of course). The course consists of 5 classes (offered on Saturday afternoons) of which the first class is for the human companions only. The course includes puppy management (house training, appropriate toys and games, social needs, dealing with jumping, digging, destructive behaviour etc), socialisation and teaching good manners. Peninsula Veterinary Hospital

Peninsula Veterinary Hospital was started by Dr Jim Brownlie in the late 1940’s. He was soon joined by Dr Dick Hyam, a class mate from Glasgow University. The partnership expanded to include Fish Hoek Veterinary Clinic run by Drs Clive Mc Donald and Tim Pritchett helping clients from all over the Peninsula.

In 1975 the practice moved from Plumstead to the cottage in Diep River, and then in 1979 they moved into the purpose built hospital.Drs Brownlie and Hyam retired in 1986, with Robert becoming a partner with Clive and Tim in 1987.

In Peninsula Vet and Fish Hoek Vet partnership split with Mark and Rob staying at Diep River.

In 2003 the waiting room was extended to allow more retail space and in 2013 we extended into the old cottage to allow space for the isolation ward, grooming parlour and the rehab unit.

At Peninsula Veterinary Hospital we provide a wide range of services, including:
a rehabilitation section with an underwater treadmill, grooming parlour,

What is Pets at Play?

Pets at Play is a veterinary company that is dedicated to animal behaviour and the growth of science-based animal behaviour in South Africa

The provision of veterinary behavioural services to clients with pets or clients wanting pets with services such as pet selection consultations, assistance with dog and cat behavioural problems using home consultation.

The provision of behaviour related services to veterinarians which includes the distribution of behaviour related toys, provision of continuing professional development to veterinarians in behaviour related subjects, a referral service for behaviour cases, and the distribution of pheromone products for dogs and cats.

The main areas that are serviced by Pets at play are the Cape Winelands

Who we are

Dr Aileen Pypers

Dr Pypers is a veterinarian with a keen interest in animal behaviour and human-animal interaction. Aileen obtained her degree from the University of Pretoria in 2010 and has been practicing as a state veterinarian since although she began offering Veterinary Behaviour consultations by referral in 2013. She has completed the Veterinary clinical behaviour medicine course through the University of Pretoria and has served on the Animal Behaviour and Interaction Group of the South African Veterinary Association committee for 3 years.

Her strengths include well-developed communication, planning and organisational skills, with a passion for educating and motivating other people.

She resides with her husband in Stellenbosch and in her spare time she horse-rides, creates handmade greeting cards and sings in the acclaimed Libertas choir.

Dr Vincent Henwood

Dr Henwood is a veterinarian that manages the operational side of the business. Dr Henwood obtained his veterinary degree from the University of Pretoria in 2010. He has been practicing as a state veterinarian ever since. Dr Henwood does the occasional locum at welfare and private practive. He has a keen interest in management systems such as ISO 22000 and ISO 9001.

Dr Henwood works well with people and is interested in client compliance and getting people to do what is good for them and their pets.
