Embriosem, Equine Veterinary Services & Reproduction Specialists
[ratemypost]
Embriosem is a veterinary practice that focuses on Equine (horse) veterinary services especially Equine reproduction, medicine & diagnostic imaging.
Dr Duncan Prinsloo Senior made history in 1986 by doing the very first embryo transfer on a horse in South Africa.
At that stage no AI or Embryo transfer foals could be registered so our work was done on an experimental basis, until AI- & ET (embryo transfer) foals could be registered in the early 1990s.
Drs Duncan Prinsloo Snr & Jnr have traveled to Brazil, USA, Netherland, Belgium & France to stay up to date with the latest advances in the Equine Embryo Transfer industry, in an endeavor to render the best possible service.
At Emriosem, we have flushed embryos from Warmbloods, Arabs, Friesians, Appaloosas, American Saddlers, Australian Stock horses, Boerperde, Hackneys etc throughout Southern Africa & as far abroad as Kenya.
Our Equine reproduction center in Gauteng is currently the only registered Equine AI & Embryo Transfer center in South Africa
We are also available to come and do embryo programs on-site at the studfarms throughout Africa.
At Emriosem, we pride ourselves on the quality service that we render when it comes to training a stallion, collecting & shipping semen, or freezing semen.
Dr Duncan Snr spent a lot of time, energy & money to acquire the best techniques for especially semen freezing. He visited the USA (colorado state university), the Netherlands, Belgium & France to learn from world specialists in the field of semen freezing which techniques they use for different stallions. We have found that by using different freezing protocols (and patenting some of our own) that we can get the best possible post thaw mortality (amount of live semen) and motility (forward movement) to ensure good fertilisation when doing frozen semen AI. The difference between mediocre & good frozen semen is vast: with mediocre semen the inseminating vet is never really confident that he will get pregancies, especially in maiden mares, whereas with really good frozen semen one can even attempt AI on older mares & easily do Embryo transplants
